Statement from Dr. David Swann on Alberta Police and Peace Officers’ Memorial Day

Edmonton, AB (September 25, 2016): Dr. David Swann made this statement in honour of Alberta Police and Peace Officers’ Memorial Day:

“Today we honour 100 Alberta men and women who laid down their lives in the service of others. These police and peace officers swore an oath to defend the laws of Alberta and died upholding that oath. There can be no greater sacrifice.

“Police and Peace Officer’s Memorial Day is a time to honour the fallen but, but also to acknowledge those who continue to serve every day, knowing full well the dangers they face. We owe a great debt to these women and men. Police and peace officers have the most demanding of professions: to be strong when strength is needed, to be compassionate when care is required and to make decisions of life and death in the blink of an eye.

“Today, I salute all Alberta’s police and peace officers, and honour and cherish the memory of those who have fallen in the line of duty.

“May they never be forgotten.”
